Mauricio De Souza, AKA “Moura” first started repairing surfboards back in 1976 in his hometown of Rio de Janeiro. Soon after he would become the guy to go to for any type of surfboard repair needs in his part of town. A few years later he moved to NYC where he landed a job patching dings on boats on City Island, an island right off the upper side of Manhattan. As the years went by, tired of the brutal winters and cold weather, missing surfing and surfboards, he moved to California, landing in San Diego in 1994. One day while watching the surfers at Windansea, La Jolla, he noticed a broken longboard washed up on the beach and without any hesitation he ran towards the surfer. He offered to put it together for $50, which the surfer accepted. That’s all where Moura Surfboard Repair, The Lord of the Dings started.
